Although Cha Cha Cohen boasted three former members of The Wedding Present among their ranks, this album actually feels like it draws much of its inspiration from another great northern indie band, namely The Fall. Throughout the forty or so minutes CCC deliver a stream of songs that thrive on insistent, repetitive rhythms and short melodic motifs. Although it has the overall feel of an indie album there are also significant trip hop elements here in keeping with the time when the record was made.

Most of the tracks start with drums and heavy bass establishing the rhythmic framework. In the background jagged electronics, samples and rhythm guitar fill the spaces in between. The guitars are more prominent on a couple of songs, including the excellent "Freon Shortwave" and "Trick or Treat". If the music recalls Messrs Scanlon, Hanley et al. then in Jacqui Dulany the band have their own female Mark E. Smith, her claustrophobic rants delivered with real ATTITUDE. It's the perfect counterfoil to CCC's edgy music and guarantees that this album never threatens to become a disappointment. The band's edgyness also prevents this record from sounding dated like so many 90's albums do.

I couldn't figure exactly what Dulany was singing about most of the time but frankly it didn't matter. After all, I spent almost my entire teens trying to work out all of Mark E. Smith's lyrics and it did me no harm.....I think.
