Brilliant post-punk from the early 1980's that is ethereal guitar driven beauty. Gorgeous soaring melodies over bitter and at times cryptic lyrics give this superb record a life of its own. Edgy and angry vocals mesh well with a sweet and dreamy sound.'Script of the Bridge' is a hallmark record and IMHO the first great post-punk offering. It is hard to imagine that this is a debut record as all of the tracks are so polished. If this record were released for the first time today, with todays improved production, it could start a movement of its own. Where acts like Joy Division sometimes collapse inward upon their own dreariness, The Chameleons explode outwardly (while looking inwardly). The track 'Second Skin' perhaps is the highlight of a record of highlights. Perhaps the one problem with this stunning record is that is so great that The Chameleons could never truly match it again. Highly recommended.
