This is a seminal piece of music. "At the Bohemia" was the beacon for Mingus' style, and "Pithecanthropus Erectus" is really the blue print for much of his later work, it's his first album where he taught the musicians the pieces by ear, and he pushes boundaries without compromising on connection to the listener, mood and swing. Very good.
