Chris Brann’s second album under his own name, NO ROOM FOR FORM, seems to bring together all his leanings under one roof. There’s the mellow downtempo vibe of “You’re Still Here” or the rolling drums and Terrance Downs vocals on “Only Think of You” to represent his Ananda Project, while the tropical jazz trappings of “No Room for Form (Part One)” could be P’Taah. The sweet house of “In Love Again” could have come straight from the Wamdue Project. But Brann is best when he throws out the pounding tech-house, like “When You’re Alone (Part One)” with its spinning horns (but less so “Part Two”) or the angular melodies of “So In Love.” This is how Chris Brann should make a name for himself.
