My favourite post-Rozz era album, really good a listen many years after its release still: very recommended.

"Atrocities" is an album that puts all the emphasis to be morose, gloomy and morbid. Truly something that inspire an elegant darkness dressed in the clothes of some deadly rock. Made to be remembered and to create a break point in all senses. We must thank Valor for this and to Rozz for not intervening, this is a masterpiece of Gothic rock.

A decadent sound was created (practically this sound will be signature wherever Glass and Co.were around, Mephisto Waltz, Carcrash International etc) that takes a more distinctively unique sensiblity. Classically influenced as well with introits from Paganini, (and the inclusion of the legendary suicidal song from Rezső Seres singed impeccably and with distinction by Gitane Demone) less Rock in death, more death into the little details, more lyrical and less anthemic or blunt. Pretentious as hell but fact this sound partly coming from the guitar effects and distortion pedals of David Glass and the extremely twisted lyrics and arrangements from both Bari-Bari and Valor made this album an unforgettable experience, truly something of a disturbed kind of beauty.

The album is supposed to be about certain events during Nazi Germany, although there are only tacit references, mostly done with necrophilic sense for poetry, allussive to torment and nightmare, pretty chaotic and demented I should have never guessed the direction if only years later I read it had a concept behind it.

Most of the album power derives from the deep effect it brings to the listener suscintly guided by a powerful atmosphera.
Yes there a patent death rock qualities in it, the rhythms specially, almost tribal at times, heavy and bold but also delicate and ornamental. It's the atmosphere created by guitar delays, pedal distortions, some piano chords and bass aftermath what sums the differentiated thing. The dark tone and the melancholic sickness.
This is dark, this is gloomy and this is certainly disturbed. A sense of impending inprisonment and doom abaits over the listener while the dark poetry of the lyrics doesn't make clear if these are the ramblings of a lunatic or just a tormented soul by the effects of existential desperation. I think it's ambiguity is better than its concept.
In any case there is a veil of mystery through the whole album, as I said, decadence abounds in this music, and would be a perfect soundtrack for a Huysmans book, which clearly is not something easy to dismiss.

Christian death transcended for good here, whether you like it or not, this is by far one of the most succulent banquets of aural decadentism made into modern music.
Pass it by sipping Laudanum!

I have a version of this that has the Type Foil embossed. Also has a couple other differences than the original pressing. Does not say "made in west germany" on center label under copyright info. Normal Records logo is in far right corner on back, and Cat# graphic in upper right corner is different. Say EtA 6918, below- LP 08 and below that, capital letter "D". No poster and inner sleeves is plain black. Handwritten label on cover says UK pressing, ltd 500. Any ideas?
