Blighted by bad reviews upon its release in 1998 Hard Rain was actually a very entertaining action movie with biblical undertones. The swift 98-minute running time meant there was no room for boredom and it charged from one overblown action scene to the next. But it's an action movie scored as a horror movie with ever so slight inspirations from Michael Kamen's Die Hard, James Horner's Aliens and even Ennio Morricone's Untouchables. With only two themes (chronicling the power of nature), Hard Rain does something new and different; a specific beat carries the score, and within this beat Chris Young throws in blasting brass sections, rambunctious strings, and pounding bass with no need for love themes or sentiment. It is sheer action and wall-to-wall fury from start to finish. Some action cues are so bombastic you can almost see the gunshots and bullets shredding your living room.

Kicking off immediately with the main theme and launching into an overture indicating the doom of the oncoming flood, the Hard Rain score soon falls into the groove of violent, sometimes scary cues all to a nervous beat. Occasionally, amid the violence and sometimes full orchestral carnage, some genuine horror moments creep in, a perfect example would be 'The Church Attack', before the major action cues blow up, an almost chilling string crescendo lends a unique touch.

The album presentation by Milan is all over the place. Tracks are incorrectly labeled and hopelessly out of chronological order. The liner cues contain a small amount of information on the score's background.

The 55 minutes (including the end credits song) featured on the album approximates roughly 85% of the film's score (performed by the London Metropolitan Orchestra). As I have already stated, the track listing is all over the place. The following is the correct order and labeling.

1. Hard Rain (Opening Credits)
2. The Truck Heist
3. Jet Ski Chase Pt. 1
4. Jet Ski Chase Pt. 2
5. Locked Up - incorrectly labeled 'The Roof'

8. Jet Ski Chase Pt. 3 - incorrectly labeled 'Church Chase Pt. 2'
9. Kenny Dies
10. The Cow
