Lyrics of Close To You:
"Baby i just cant forget
The way it used to be
all the stars are shining bright
when you are close to me
tell me what to do the night
to ease the pain inside
tears are dropping from my face
that i would like to hide"

I'm sitting at my desk, Beatport open on my screen and looking at EDM 053's tracklisting. The names are recognizable, so why would I be so ridiculously excited about adding them to my cart? Four tracks that don't have the rep that Virtual Experience, District Of Power, and the Flying Saucers have.

First appearing in '96, track 1 "Cocooma" follows Alex & Atilla's tried and true formula of deep pads with elongated breakdowns. Foreboding what's to come on the EP, Cocooma lights up over average trancers as the song's vibratory riffs prepare the listener for a wild ride. "Hello, Kareem?" And of course the German TV ad was sampled during the lightly drummed intro and the buildup.

"Kasovka" is the track I was most thrilled about prior to listening. Any fan of this group has been awaiting the day Kasovka was released. Cocooma dropped this a number of times when they performed live. An epic intro signals the start of the legendary group's lovely track right before the beats fly in around 0:50. Kasovka follows an identical formula to Cocooma - dark and heavy - but more melodic. Gradually as the song builds up toward the first climax, there is a point at which the rapid percussion blends perfectly then stops entirely with a gale-like sample before all hell breaks loose.

Unlike the previous two tracks, I have no recollection of "Close To Me." Immediately you can sense the song will not follow the traditional formula but will break the mold into something retrospectively engaging. Close To Me, is what I would call a marriage between Hard Trance and Mákina – 110% Pure Energy! Sweeping euphoria with a piano intro followed by massive acid leads, airy synths and a bouncy, clever bassline. Interestingly enough, the real highlight here are the vocals; dreamy, vocoder lyrics round off this perfect song.

Unfortunately the EP ends. At least it ends with "EFX-Mas," the Christmas themed hard trancer. Straight from the EFX-Club Compilation of 1996, this may just be the first unique Christmas song in decades! Well written lyrics backed by a piano melody send the message a hymn would. Once the first section ends, a simple but magical hook sweeps in. No XTC synths, no acid riffs, just pure and uplifting hard trance.

Yes, these are the unreleased tracks. Thankfully Christian Scharnweber and Atilla Girisken were looking out for us in 2013. Now the world can finally experience this much more Cocooma.

"They're already here, and they've been here for a long time..."
