Summer of 1990. In a Brooklyn basement Codeine created a jaded and disillusioned music. It’s a noise rock with delicate dissonant arpeggios and rhythmic strokes in slow motion. It takes your breath away as summer sultriness, it isolates you as autumn fog, it hypnotizes you as lights of a metropolis, watched through a car window running on a wet road. Frigid Stars slides slowly into the void of loneliness, without alternatives; nihilistic and tired, it’s a chasm that fatally attracts you. Sometimes it sounds intimate, sometimes epic, never too emphatic. Existential and cathartic in its simplicity - as some albums by Neil Young and Nick Drake - Frigid Stars is original, unique and a source of inspiration for all post rock and slowcore bands, from Low to Mogwai, from Bark Psychosis to Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
