This may seem like an odd question since I own this edition, but can anyone comment on surface noise?
Mine got a bit of tiny hairline scratches you cant really feel with your fingernail and im wondering if thats causing that (not planning on selling and im luckily perfectly ok if thats the case, so no problem if it is the case) or the pressing is just noisy in general

This officially sanctioned 2001 remaster of Coil’s dark, classic, timeless masterpiece suffers horribly from major compression and clipping issues, rendering it far inferior to the original 1988 UK pressing.
Buy the 1988 CD version, not this abortion.

The definitive pressing of this dark, classic, timeless masterpiece.
Clearly does not suffer from clipping and compression issues like the horrid 2001 remaster. This is the only CD copy worth owning of this landmark release.

A little out of tune againts of the original release, is really anoying that "The first minutes after death" appears in the back cover but doesn't in the lp instead, so the only way to enjoy this piece of art called "Horse Rotorvator" is looking for the original pressing besides of these bootlegs.

Will idiots please realise that this is supposed to be reviews of the actual music and not how annoyed they are that they stupidly bought a bootleg LP from another idiot. Don't buy them. Buy the original issues, that's why its all listed. I realise it is thoughtful to make people aware of the quality but that's to be expected and all you have to say is don't buy this its shit. Sellers don't care what they sell and complaining about them on here wont do anything.
The album is awesome by the way

The second "real" studio album of these exceptional musicians (when you think of Coil, do you think of music?) represents a mature work in every way. The opener, "Anal Staircase", also available in a slightly different version on a 12'', is already such an emotionally dense work that inevitable images arise in the listeners mind - no mater how you would describe this images, the use of the adjective "beautiful" probably depends on the judgment of individuals. But the consistent break with existing listening habits is why Coil gathered a small but tight-knit community around them. Completists should note that the two B-side tracks of the aforementioned 12" ("Ravenous", and "Blood From the Air" ) are included on this CD (as opposed to the vinyl edition). Without commenting the whole tracklist, the track "Babylero" should be pointed out, which is a sound collage based on a Spanish folk song that continues to drive the concept of "mental images in the head" yet further. As on their debut album (at least the CD edition) this one also includes a song-cover, this time Leonard Cohen's "Who by Fire", which (imho) is inferior to the depressing atmosphere of their "Tainted Love" cover.
But the most fascinating thing about this album is, however, its artistic unity - and that despite the fact that the mentioned "bonus tracks" are not a supplement placed at the end of the CD, but well integrated into the overall concept. With its different view angles musically and lyrically describing the depths of the human soul this album represents a work of a different kind clearly influenced by classic magic(k) and its further development.
Please note that this is by now the only authorized issue of this album. Hopefully it will be reissued by Threshold House soon.

In the summer when I was sixteen, I saw Pasolini's film Salo, which, after 25 years, had finally received BBFC certification, allowing it to be shown here in the UK. As I sat in the dimly gaslit Edwardian theatre, waiting for the film to start, I listened to the most incredible baroque-like music infused with an industrial sensibility. A sort of poetic perversity. I'd never heard anything like it and, sitting through one of the most intense film experiences of my life, I couldn't help but keep wondering what I'd heard. It was the perfect marriage to the film's detached observation of the worst of human capabilities, with both explicitly referencing Dante's Inferno. After the film, I found out it was an album called Horse Rotorvator, which the projectionist had put on.
On that day Coil became my new favourite band. Although I cannot say I have an album of theirs I like the most, this is certainly one of their most grabbing works, dark but 'musical' compared to some of their other output. Here, their groundbreaking accomplishment is furnished with lyrics that straddle a range of themes, incorporating mythology and literary references along the way. It stands out as the cutting edge of its time and remains a beautiful achievement. Years after my cinema visit, I saw them play at Hackney's Ocean Club, in 2004, in what turned out to be their penultimate gig. Some time following that, I met a few people who knew Sleazy and Jhon - (specifically, Stephen Thrower's side of the social scene) - and what they've said about the duo has reinforced my understanding that they were genuinely troubled individuals. With Sleazy having made a ton of money from advertising and his video work, the pair always looked to rope in other males into their curious private world of hard substances and sex. Let's not forget that following Jhon's booze-induced death, Sleazy went on to live in southeast Asia, surrounded by boys...
