This two CD reissue has been reprogrammed in chronological order. The first 31 selections were originally recorded between 1929 and 1947, prior to the introduction of tape recording. These have been newly transferred to digital tape from original metal parts and test pressings preserved in the BMG Music/RCA Records vaults. The final nine tracks were originally recorded directly to analog tape. these have in some cases been newly transferred to digital form; for others, which have previously been digitally reissued, those earlier transfers were used.
