In contrast to the slower, funkier first version, the second version of Breakdown is a syrupy new wave dance jam, with the new vocals of Lolita Grahame and a hard-driving beat with lots of tape edits. This latter style foreshadowed the Young bros' later pioneering of sampling (in Hot Doggie) and as MARRS in Pump Up the Volume. Tarantula, written by Martyn Young and sung by Grahame, is one part cutter anthem, other part political screed, and other part genre-bending dub cut. You could call it "dub goth". Think a 16-year old Zooey Deschanel on ludes. Appropriate for Thatcherite Britain and, sadly, today. Amazing work, and, surprisingly easy to find here on Discogs. I have two copies to DJ with.
