I caught the 90s Grunge Wave (still religiously buying Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains) and rediscovered C.O.C thanks to notorious 90s Channel 4 youth show The Word . I say ‘rediscovered’ as I first heard C.O.C in the 80s when they supported Concrete Sox as part of a Punk gig bill. I digress. Seeing C.O.C mime Albatross on TV was enough for me to rush out and buy Corrosion Of Conformity - Deliverance, and now being a ‘fan,’ the follow up Wiseblood.
Unfortunately Wiseblood lacks the punch delivered on Corrosion Of Conformity - Deliverance. The standout tracks Born Again For The Last Time, The Door and Long Whip / Big America do recall the righteous riffs and catchiness displayed on the previous album, but this one just doesn’t gel as well as it should. However Wiseblood did confirm my hypothesis that C.O.C are a sort of Grungey Thin Lizzy.
