CRAFT - CRAFT (Kinetic Discs KDCD 1003) CD 40m
Formed by ex-Enid members William Gilmour and Martin Russell, Craft's sole album had become highly regarded by progressive fans as one of the finest UK 80's progressives, taking the Enid classical fusion style to far more energetic and rock based realms, being totally instrumental with complex Camel, King Crimson and Italian rock type stylings. Craft boasted the unusual fact that they had no lead guitarist, instead (via an octave device) all the guitar lead lines are played by Martin Russell on his bass, couple that with the complex drum work by Grant McKay Gilmour and very thick layers of keyboards, and you have a sound that is ultimately closer to 70's Euro-Rock bands like: SFF, Shylock, Sensations Fix, Asia Minor, etc. This is certainly a welcome CD reissue, especially with the addition of two previously unreleased moody classical keyboard (i.e. very Enid-like) pieces at the end.
