This is sincerely some of the most bizarre blues that I’ve ever run across ... and even today, I’m not sure what to say about it. Cuby & Blizzards is a Dutch band living on the musical edge of what’s expected, and what should never be. There’s an undercurrent of traditional twelve bar inspired blues, some of the best with a solid walking blues bass line that often seems to be shadowing that used by many of the blues and jazz greats that’s drawn from the atmospheric Chicago sound of the 1960’s.

Now, I’m not gonna try and convince you that their musicianship is masterful, though a handful of songs are down right sizzling ... it’s more about the intensity of their delivery, and how they employ ideas and instrumentation from halfway around the world. There are some songs that possess a punk-blues feel to them, and others riding close to the sound of progressive-blues, with the spirit of this compilation being nothing short of eye opening, and will present something for nearly everyone.

Yes, you’re gonna hear better blues, but there’s an element to the non-traditional approach taken here that can not be denied, and will certainly command your attention.

*** If you're downloading, and you want the cream of the cream, you shouldn't miss, "Checkin' Up My Baby," "The Sky is Crying," "Too Blind To See," "Simple Plan," "Bad News," " Can YouTell Me What Love Is," " I've Always Been Lonely," and " My Old Jimmy."
