For the uninitiated, this is the "old" instrumental version of City Lights that dates back to around 2009. It has a lot of the same instrumentation as the final version, but as with most of Culture Shock's output it sat unreleased for years until he got it exactly how he wanted. In this case it meant adding vocals (in interviews he says he wanted it to be a vocal track almost from the start and it took him years to find the right one) and changing a few things instrumentally. There are noticeable differences between this version and the final instrumental version and some of those (the sudden brief cutout of the music around the 3-minute mark, and the abrupt ending, to name two) telegraph that this version was designed mainly for use in DJ mixes, giving credence to its vinyl-only release. Still, it's an excellent track. If only the old version of Machine could see the light of day in a similar fashion...
