This isn't exactly a groundbreaking mix CD per se, but it is very well done and a lot of fun to listen to. Basically, this is raw, hard Detroit Techno. There are some more melodic moments here and there but if you're looking for a ton of melody, look elsewhere. It's also not as blindingly intense a Jeff Mills' Liquid Room disc. Instead, Bone keeps things at more of a party rocking tempo and there is enough breathing room for him to show of his DJ skills.

Since I'm not a DJ myself, I can't describe everything he does here, but there are a lot of little tricks and flourishes he does with his decks and mixer that most DJs do not attempt. That's what makes this disc stand out. I believe he is also running three decks here.

Several tracks from Bone's own label are also included along with the big names. His tracks tend to be pretty spartan, but funky DJ tools and work great in the context of this mix. Not sure how they would stand on their own for home listening though. Still, I'd be interested in hearing more of his own productions.

The sound quality of this CD is solid (Mills' Liquid Room disc is noticeably rougher in sound), but it is not as polished (i.e. digitally edited) as the majority of mix CDs released today. You can actually hear the crackles of the records as they cue up in the quieter parts like the intro. That's not a bad thing, as I much prefer rawer sounding mixes like this one and find them very refreshing.

Note: there are different versions of this disc floating around and some of them are actually CDRs with paper labels glued to the top. If having an actual, professionally pressed CD is important to you, be sure to confirm with the seller what you are getting before you buy.

This is an excellent CD, my copy was a version that is not listed on discogs currently, how ever I sold my physical copy to someone in France; it was the local independent release that was sold at Record Time in Roseville, MI through out the early 2000s as a mid-priced promotional style mix CD. The artwork was the same except black and white. This mix defines the Detroit Techno sound from the late 1990s. If you are looking to relive the dirty late night warehouse scene from the comfort of your home, look no further--five star classic release.

Have to agree with the other reviewers, this mix is fucken Crazy! Probably the best detroit mix ive heard in a long long time if not ever. And the skills displayed by Bone are phenominal. The mix he does between Black lives and If(we) is something special but then the mix of Icon and Firekeeper is just blows you away. And the track selection is sublime. A lot of classics on here but also tracks which are not that well known but absolute gems. Mr Dulan if your reading this please, please come to Australia.

my favourite techno mix album of all time, even bettering jeff mills live at the liquid room. having seen this guy dj live i know he`s capable of some of the insane mixing heard on this album. he makes some very ordinary techno tracks become absolute monsters, and gives the listener a great introduction to detroit techno. it is also a must for all those upcoming techno dj`s as it shows how the music can sound when you put in the time and effort to bring out something new in a track. the way he mashes up `mirage` is truly a tour de force.

This is one of the best techno mix cd's out there.
I had never heard of dj bone before listening to this
cd, but i am now forever a fan of this great dj/producer.
The way Bone mixes the tracks puts most so called dj's to shame
Awesome track selection, and superb mixing make this a must have
cd for any techno fan. Really soulfull and funky, some of
my friends who prefer house to techno loved this cd.
Highly recomended. Every track is brilliant. As a huge techno and
house fan myself with over 100 mix cd's this along with the
Jeff Mills live in tokyo cd has to be my all time favourite
techno mix.
