This 12" represents DJ Hype at his best. The beats are typical 93 hardcore breaks, quite fast, but its the originality in the samples and overall track direction that set DJ Hype's 93 sound in a class of its own.
Both tracks have a quite dark overall sound to them, and are closer to the 'Jungle' sound than any other genre. 'Shot In The Dark' has the famous 'hear de gunshot' vocal sample over a great breakbeat and moody deep bassline, plenty of different sections to keep you interested.
The best tune imo is 'I Cant Understand It' which has an amazing beginning starting with a great vocal and unreal scratching which sets the tone for the main start of the track. It is a crazy mixture of breaksbeats, samples, and none typical sounds, adding up to a fantastic tune which really stands out to me as one of his best.
These tunes were hammered by the pirate radios I used to listen to, and they still sound as fresh today as back then.
