Dan Abrams' minimalist compositions on STREAM are an acquired taste. But if you've acquired it, you'll savor this album. The album vacillates between two forms: the warm, tonal tracks like "A Shell" and "The Theory" and the more icy, abstract ones like "Academic" and "Monsters." But Mr. Abrams does them both with ease. For the most part, the tracks are generally beatless -- tracks like "Bendy" sound as if they could have come off of Chain Reaction. The mood varies as well, from the more distant melody of the title track to the modulated warmth of "Mr. Fish." This is one to listen to if you want to enter another state of mind entirely.
