Dalhous' debut, AN AMBASSADOR FOR LAING, starts with the gurgling mystery of "He Was Human And Belonged With Humans" as it clatters into something akin to free jazz held in place by the hissing percussion. A moodiness hangs over the tracks, like the delicate melancholy of "The Physical Body," although "Bolder And Lighter Than The Beat From A Wing" adds a lightness. The mystery returns in "Dalhous," like a whirligig as seen through a kaleidoscope, while "The Cruel Practice Of Art" gets even more spacious, particularly with its trip-hop rhythm. A dreaminess drifts into "Dwelling By The Meadow," before the brightness of "Eros, Love And Lies" comes in like light through blinds. The strings draw out "Dreamers Of Decadence" into the clatter of percussion. A rather beguiling journey.
