I’ll just come right out with it: Yes, this is the Daly-Wilson Band album that contains the break-beat. Funnily enough, I first found out about this record when I was in a Toronto record store called Cosmos and a guy in there asked me if I had a spare copy of “the Daly Wilson album with ‘Dirty Feet’ on it.” I feigned a “no, not right now” and took note of the track title he had quoted. The track is much more than just the break-beat intro that Mobb Deep sampled for ‘Shook Ones’ though. It’s a great funky big-band number with a strong rhythm section and some tight playing – a view that the Queensland production outfit, the Resin Dogs, evidently share with me. The other cut to check for on here is ‘City Sounds’ which has some great vocal work thanks to Kerrie Biddell. Both these tracks appeared on the Respect Overdue compilation series (aussiefunk.blogspot.com).
