Electronic music wunderkind Nicolas Jaar joins up with guitarist Dave Harrington for a trip to the Darkside, the "Golden Arrow" quietly throbs into life, diffusing and refracting different sonic texture before clarifying into a steady thump with some slight country-western influences, before Jaar's howl pierces through. "Heart" continues this feel with its rockabilly shoegaze attitude and electronic thuds; "Paper Trails," meanwhile, slides around with a smooth six-string twang. "The Only Shrine I've Seen" goes slightly more upbeat rhythmically with a laid-back break, while "Freak, Go Home" piles on the layers of haze. "Greek Light" takes a meditative, melancholy path, before the funk of "Metatron" closes the album on a soulful note the grows Victorian in its instrumentation towards the end. Quiet and engrossing..

I got a replacement after the copy I picked up at a local shop appeared to be punched and trimmed off-center (just the first disc). The tonearm on my player swayed about half a centimeter, which seemed to introduce a wavering during the first long note on side B.

A replacement was offered by Matador (or Beggar's Group?), and the contact mentioned that two of the four she opened (to guarantee the replacement didn't exhibit the same flaw) were also off-center. Just a heads up. Shout out to their customer service folks— they're amazing.

Nonetheless, an awesome recording with astonishing depth.

Great pressing. Fantastic quality and good packaging. Forgot it was a 45RPM record on first playthrough; sounds great at both speeds.

absolutely phenomenal sounding pressing. the 45RPM was a wonderful idea, the frequency response is unreal and the dynamics are very open and uncompressed-sounding.
