This album takes a breath taking tribute to the sumptuous strings and ambiance of velvetty lush orchestral overload, and throws it into a mix with driving rhythms, sardonic lyrics, and homages to the road. Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes were a brilliant ensemble, a synthesis of musicians and a wired pioneer whose ovure traverses the sweet to the dark, within quirky yet hummable song structures. This cd was Australia in the 1990s, without the historical revisionism and potent capitalist lucky country vibe. The Soft and Sexy Sound stands the testament of time, yet is better than its more commercial peers because of the understanding of those wild and pesky snakes. Brilliant.
