Constructed with the same formula than the debut album of Valentin (Legends), "Land Of The Third Eye" shows more of the good spiritual jazz fusion of Dave Valentin and his group, but in a funkier way. And not exactly as good as his debut, the album still show some cool cosmic ballads ("Astro-March"), Pop-infested songs ("Open Your Eyes"), covers of Pop groups (The only one really is "Fantasy", an EWF classic) and, the main difference of Dave Valentine's music, Latin songs, like the great title track. The music does not try to relax (Although it is smooth compared with Valentine's later work); the energy of the latin music is now filling each song, besides the greatness of the musicians and the melodicism of the songs. This is a great example of a cool 80's smooth record; a must for every lover of this man: one of the finest flautists in music history. And one of the most underrated.
