Black Tie White Noise, David Bowie's first solo album in five years, due out on April 8th, sees him reunited with Nile Rodgers, one of his most successful past associates. Rodgers was behind the controls on Bowie's massively successful 1983 album "Let's Dance".
The album however, takes on a fresh new direction. The album encompasses many styles, with the fractured funk of "Miracle Goodnight"' to the edgy pop and great vocals of "Jump The Say".
There are classic Bowie vocal performances, and as ever, challenging lyrics as on the title track "Black Tie White Noise"' which takes the L.A. riots as its subject. This track is also memorable for a great duet with U.S. soul singer Al B. Sure! Other surprises incude a heart stopping rendition of Morrisey's "I Know It's Going to Happen Some Day" (says Bowie "It's me doing Morrissey doing me") and a guest apperance from original 'Spiders' guitarist Mick Ronson. Saxophone is a predominant instrument on "Black Tie White Noise" and apart from Bowie's playing, the album also features jazz great Lester Bowie on trumpet, cornet and flugelhorn.
