When this first came out it sounded like some kind of joke and nobody paid much attention. Now, however, after much loud rotation in altered states, the album has become truly anthemic. Perfect anti-pop, at times reminiscent of The Residents and early Ween (in the spooky hillbilly narrator sense), and obviously great to paint to. Definitely an "album", best heard from start to finish as an adventure that gets weirder with each step, each mysterious happening, until the title track leads you into the black lodge itself. The record ends leaving you adrift in some strange heaven. A surrealist classic.

I was quite excited about this, David Lynch being my favourite movie director and with his moments of musical collaborations with Angelo Badalamenti often proving to be very good (Fire Walk With Me soundtrack!) this held a lot of promise. Unfortunately this slips into the category of weaker projects effortlessly alongside some of those rough animations and Rabbits series which he lazily has graced us with over the last few years.
