The track selection on these two CD's is slightly average, with the 2nd disc offering a bit more of what Padilla would regularly play for the crowd but neither of them coming close to displaying the power and force that he exhibited so confidently and consistently on a weekly basis. It was truly legendary and in many ways revolutionary for the trance genre and real electronic music as opposed to what is being referred to as EDM these days. Europe enjoyed their fun with the rave scene during the early 90's and by the time The Mix opened its doors, EDM was already transforming into a commercially viable entity. With all that aside, The Mix was truly an anomaly considering the circumstances surrounding Trance as an untapped source of music in South Florida and in retrospect just a handful of people were fortunate enough to experience the magic that Padilla conjured up so often during a solid 3 year span.

Those who did make it to that hole in the wall between 14th & 15th street & Washington Ave. on South Beach had an experience that few people have ever known. While not always a positive experience for some who just couldn't get comfortable with the excessive vibe of the place, there was still a very select group that made it their church and it was a small slice of heaven, so to speak. I would compare it to a phenomena such as Woodstock in the sense that it was a strange place with strange people doing strange things listening to strange music all the while providing a rare situation for those who can look back at that time & place and know that it will never be duplicated or copied ever again. It must be clear that while these CD's offer selections that were undoubtedly a part of Padillas vinyl arsenal, this set will NOT quite represent what a live Mix experience with David Padilla actually felt like.
