Hadn't played this album in a while and gave it a good listen recently...

Forgot how strong this material is!

Filled to the brim with lysergic neuro grooves, the mood is twisted and confusing. Darkness and funkiness in equal proportions. They overlap, meld, cohabitate or compete for the foremost position. One second the sinister tones have the upper hand. The second after it's "keep on truckin' baby!!"... The name of the album - "Self Oscillation" - summarizes this bipolar identity perfectly. A challenging psychedelic product...

Among the darker tracks I'm really enjoying "Warheads" - Brewed together: Hoffman's potion and Mankind's ability to commit nuclear suicide. Well that's the flavor I get anyway...

"Alien Dick" is relentless and reminds me a bit of the "Quadrature" track on Quadra's first album. The opposite of easy listening!

I can understand this album not being everyone's cup of tea, but ever since its release it's been dismissed by many reviewers and online commentaries - unjustly in my opinion.

For those who dig this type of heavy mental, vascillating dark / groovy trance I'd recommend the "Abstract Phaze" compilation on Matsuri (1996).
