Outstanding album. He couldn't have described it better as he already did in the official description. Deep, organic, cinematic soundscapes. This is my favorite album by Rod as he combines the best parts of Sommer (the light and airy ambient elements combined with seaside field recordings) and Ultraviolet Music (cinematic approach and sound design). I prefer this one to Ultraviolet Music as the mastering is definitely better. On Ultraviolet Music the whole sound was a bid muddy a compressed (maybe intentional) and I missed the clarity and brightness which can be found on Auratones.

A perfect album to remind you of long summer days and evenings but also in transition towards fall. The aquatic field recordings support the subterranean bass perfectly. Moving Lights sets off like a pulsating lighthouse signal, Varanasi takes you directly to India and works like a travelogue the same way as Portofino does. Azure is my personal favorite, though, as I love the lightweight beat and the focus on the ambient elements even more. This is the sound of Rod I prefer the most. On Ultraviolet Music some beats were too prominent, monstrous and thumping and kind of "destroyed" the light field recordings.
Overall, Auratones tells a beautiful story and offers a high level of repeated listening sessions. Rod doesn't invent any new sounds, doesn't break with his formular, instead he perfected his own sound.

Postcards? What postcards? Must be kidding! I bought my exemplar just yesterday in Concerto record shop
on Amsterdam. It was sealed, i.e. not opened. But, postcards...were definitely there.
Not that I do need them, for postcards a person goes to a post office or a shop.
For the rest, a very good record: trance, ( minimal ) techno, some dub influences here & there.
Good mixture by all means, so please do not forget: this is about music and hardly anything else !

Dear Soma,

Please ship your records in a decent record mailer, the ones that don't damage the corners (see Giegling). You guys are professionals and your packaging is pathetic. Record arrived with all 4 corners damaged, 2 of them severely, water damaged & with the cellophane ripped open. Why go through all the trouble of printing color vinyl & postcards in a great presentation, only to ruin it with a 2 cent piece of cardboard sent across the pond?

Sincerely,
Your Customers

CD is absolute fire just like Sommer, UltraViolet, Hash-Bar Loops. Same big deep, nasty sound, each track with its own unique little subtleties. I hope this man releases a new album every year for the rest of my life. My favorite artist in recent years by far.

Is this CD version fully mixed? Would imply so on the soma site.
