The "Dossier" label issue on CD contains 2 bonus tracks not on the 1997 US hypnotic issue (with there the bonus track "Brainwaves"): "rising" and "covert". From these 2, "Covert" is the best bonus track (above all after 3 minutes).

I've owned almost all of the Leeb/Fulber 90's side projects and Syrophenikan is pretty much at the head of the class. They pulled off the dark tribal-electronic thing incredibly well with a minimum of obvious stolen samples and cheese. Sampled middle-eastern vocals, pounding tribal rhythms, ominous synth effects, all mixed together for maximum atmosphere. Perfect late night headphone music. Easily one of the best of the "early Delerium" releases.

If you buy the CD of this album buy this pressing. The bonus track "Brainwaves" is the best track on the album.

So I used to own this version Delerium - Syrophenikan, now I didn't listen to it too many times, but when I recently picked up this newer reissue and listened to it, I feel like it sounds a lot different, at the very least more dynamic sounding than I remember, maybe even additional sounds and effects etc... were these reissues of the early Dossier albums remixed? or remastered or anything?

Another lowly regarded album by Leeb and company, Syrophenikan isn't really the "black sheep" that critics make it out to be. Is it dated? Yeah. Is it bad? Not really. This release treads along the fine line between Delerium's Passive Listening music and their more active releases. I wouldn't reccommend this as your first Delerium album. Start with "Karma" or "Spheres". They are very opposite, but are more accessible to a newcomer. "Spheres" is more ambient and wide-open than "Karma" which is more of an Ethnic Trance type album.
