Solid stuff. The production could be better but it's still nice Texas death metal, mostly mid-tempo (the title track even has doomy parts and there're also up-tempo parts of course). I just wish the production was more powerful.
Some people slam... Devourment for this album but I really think the sound is the problem, not the songwriting or the performance.
Give Devourment Cannibal Corpse's album budget and see what this TX legend is capable of...

RELAPSE RECORDS INFO SHEET:

"Dallas, Texas’s DEVOURMENT are without question extreme metal’s most brutal purveyor’s of filth. With a rabid following throughout the world, DEVOURMENT’s return to the scene with their Relapse debut ‘Conceived In Sewage’ is bar none the most punishing record of 2013. Every aspect of this record is thoroughly and awesomely depraved—from it’s monstrously slamming and catchy riffs to the disgusting lyrics burped out of lead growler Mike Majewski’s throat to the absolutely abhorrent album art to the over the top production by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal). ‘Conceived In Sewage’ is pure, hateful, muscle bound death-metal---exactly what you’ve been waiting for. This is the kind of record your mother warned you about."

I say: luckily Devourment choose a path of molding more Old School Death Metal into their Sound. Vocals are more harsh and gnarly on this one than the constant guttural in the past. It delivers a new level of brutality when you just simply can understand the first lines of "Legalize Homicide" for example.
The production ist one of Rutan's best by far: crisp, clear, powerfull and dense! Period.
