Pretty decent, really. I remember being ambivalent about this when it came out. Twenty years later, I really enjoy it. The samples and loops are pretty diverse, the beats are decent. Shell's voice is distinctive: he sounds a bit like a mushmouthed foghorn. In a good way. His rapping style is mostly old school — it feels more like a synthesis of late '80s vocal styles and cadences that have been used before; it isn't very forward-looking. Thematically it's a mixture of bragging, girl-dissing and shallow one night stands. Oddly, in one song he's patting himself on the back for defending an unattractive girl ("Same Ol' Song") and then in the next song ("Giggles") he's finding every insult in the book to call a blind date ugly. As a whole, it's very worthwhile, solid but not classic. I think it didn't get promoted well, resulting in poor sales and no follow-up album. I remember seeing the video for "Oh What A Night" played sparingly on Yo! MTV Raps, but not the other single.
