Scott Herren teams up with drummer Zach Hill to form Diamond Watch Wrists, a continuation of his post-rock leanings. Live drumming informs ICE CAPPED AT BOTH ENDS, as a warm folksiness infuses "My Last Time In This Place," while the languor of "One Second Early Late" quietly harmonizes. Herren's vocals have never been particularly strong, and they display their weakness on "Onward Push Me Out," but they work fine with the warm buzz and chorus of "Start Wrong." Tyondai Braxton from Battles stops by for a duet on rattle and hiss of "Simple Love Notes (5 Years Later)." The woozy "Taped Up Swagger (High School Version)" leads into the ambiance of "Ending." Interesting, if not particularly compelling.
