This is a reissue of Ngoma J33 001 (ca 1970), with sides reversed. if you are really looking for "Sookie" or "Save me" why not look in the rock section under Them or King Curtis? Otherwise Ngoma were smart to put those tracks at the end of each side so you could skip them. Bovic was brought in to do those lame garage rock imitations so Nico could go to the bar for a drink. This is the late 60s band, with Chantal and Sangana on vocals. Great versions of the kiri kiri on here, and a smooth Latin cover "Suavilo." The sublime ballad "Nalingi no ya motema" was also known as "Doris." "Nazali eloko te" (mis-spelled on the label) has wonderful guitar by Nico adorning the melody. The great kiri kiri "Angèle ozali wapi" was also known as "Kiri kiri mabina ya sika" -- this is the shortest version (Sukisa 79a was over 5mins); and it was remade as Sukisa503B. "Canshita" on the lap-steel guitar, with Sangana on vocals, is better known as "Limbisa ngai." "Nakopenda Marie Nella" is a rumba sung by Paul Mizele. Sadly every track on here has been shortened from the original singles issued.

Hey DJs: If you are looking for "Sookie" - don't buy this! The track fades out long before the end of the original recording. Just like the clip, that has been posted to the release site. The sound quality of this release is noteworthy substandard! There is only one other killer-track on this record: "Save Me". All the other tracks are rather mediocre High Life with a folkloristic touch.
