I liked part of that album too but it's odd that you didn't mention what many people would consider the 2 most important things about it. First of all it featured work by famous Motown producers and second of all Marie Osmond did an incredible imitation of Diana Ross on that record.

I already had this album when I became self aware at 3 or 4 years old. That was the late seventies and I loved it then. While revisiting it in my late thirties, I expected a torrent of cheese, which it delivered. However there is good cheese, like Abba, and bad cheese, such as Debbie Gibson. One holds up over time, the other does not. This album is good cheese all the way. Very upbeat with a disco feel, and amazing synthesizer sounds that only could come out of that era. The music and production value was better than I expected, but the vocals are the real draw. Marie's voice was at her best on this album, and Donny's vocals are always tight, though they lost something with maturity about one year after this. Their harmonies are almost supernatural, not as crazy as Fleetwood Mac's three-way with Stevie, Linsay, and Christy, but in that neighborhood. If you like feel good cheesy pop, this is for you. It seems like now, in 2013, cheesy pop is all you hear on the radio anyway. I was definitely a big fan of Donny and Marie Osmond, with this being my favorite album from them by far. If you like Abba, The Carpenters, Donna Summer, even Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, give "Winning Combination" a try.......if you can find it.
