I'm very happy with this pressing. I preordered it after hearing that it would be limited to 300 copies, amazed (and a little skeptical) that this would be mastered from the original tapes for so small a run. (I wonder if this excellent mastering will see a wider release, maybe via Sony.) It sounds fantastic, and the pressing is flat and quiet. That being said, I don't have another mono vinyl copy to compare this to. (I purchased the Sundazed reissue on gold vinyl a few months back, which I had to return because side B was pressed off-center.)

The mastering brings out the bass a bit more than I'm used to when hearing these songs. On the whole, this is a good thing, though it was a little overbearing in “The Season of the Witch.” The one song that doesn't come out better here is the title track. The drums and bass run together and the sound is muddy. I compared the mastering here to the mono and stereo remixed versions of the track on Donovan - Sunshine Superman (Stereo Special Edition) and concluded that it's probably the original recording and mixing of the mono version that's to blame for the sound.

The cover reproduction was well done, but the stock used for the standard sleeve should have been heavier for the 180 gram pressing. Nice poly-lined inner sleeves included. All in all, an excellent reissue!
