TL;DR: wonderful pressing, buy it over the CD!

Gotta said that this pressing has an excellent mastering. Even the source audio is questionable, i am pretty sure is from a digital source but with no access to the individual instrument tapes. That will be the low light of this pressing: song transitions (such as "One last time" to "Spirit Carries On") feels cut. You can even notice the sudden mute.

Back to the mastering of the music, it's beyond wonderful. Compared to the CD version, i can truly say that Vinyl version does not want me to put volume down after the first 5 minutes of the album. With CD, i need to stay alert when to readjust Volume levels. Such annoying thing.

As an important note, this is the 3rd MOV pressing I own (the other 2 are Blackwater Park and De-loussed in the Commatorium) and I blindly could buy more MOV releases without being worried about lack of noise or bad quality in media/gatefold. I am pleased!

don't know why ETR 2014 Repress comes with a blurry cover, just like scanned from a CD cover. but this one much better than that. it's weird cuz normally people use the same file to print.

They say an animal is most dangerous when backed into a corner, and that could not be any more evident than Dream Theater recording their magnum opus, 'Scenes from a Memory'.

With record label pressure and the business side of the music industry taking its toll on the band (and most specifically on drummer Mike Portnoy) during the release and touring of previous album 'Falling Into Infinity', it was now a time to go hard or go home. Dream Theater wanted to be left alone to write their own music, that would appeal to their own fan base, without the interjection of any record label executives who didn't understand the band, their fans, or their genre of music. It was do-or-die as the band stood on the brink of self-implosion, but they stood tall and delivered an album that is highly regarded as not only their finest work, but one of the greatest albums progressive metal has to offer.

Based around the story of a man who is a reincarnation of a girl that was murdered, and how he revisits his past life in his dreams (or something like that!), the concept is highly ambitious and complex, especially with all the different characters being voiced by James LaBrie. But it doesn't detract from the quality of the music, and with the usual awe-inspiring prowess you'd come to expect from progressive metals most famous band, this is an album where the band fire on all cylinders.

'Home', 'Fatal Tragedy', 'One Last Time' and 'Strange Déjà Vu' are some of many highlights on this album, although it's hard to pick just a few, as the album from start to finish is one giant highlight reel. And of course, the absolute peak of Dream Theater's technical ability, instrumental track 'The Dance of Eternity', will encourage listeners to throw away whatever instruments they're learning as they slowly realize how they'll never be this good.

A record that belongs in any metal or prog collection, 'Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory' started the upward momentum that truly put Dream Theater's careers and lives in their own hands, and has endured as one of the greatest concept albums of all time.

So, I somehow have number 3013 out of 3000 from the original run.

I know it's not a boot because all the matrix/barcode/catalog number info matches what's posted here, and I ordered directly from Enjoy The Ride in 2011 when it was first released.

Weird.

Also of note, Side D ends with a locked groove (ironically of run-out static).

This is a fantastic pressing, dead quiet with excellent dynamics, but to be fair this album has a stellar production on CD as well. My copy has some black vinyl marks on Side 1 and Side 3, with no effect on sound quality.

Anyone familiar with this album knows it ends with a the sound of a broken record. What makes this pressing interesting is they didn't place a runoff at the very end of the record, forcing the stylus to skip at the end, causing the broken record sound to actually be broken and the listener to shutoff their turntable once they realize it is never going to end.

Awesome touch.

The whole album is made up like a opera, the whole story is written into the lyrics.

Great pressing comes with a laminated gatefold cover not low-pixel album art like the US reissue, absolutely brilliant.I have the US reissue and the original CD but sound quality of MOV release is excellent, dynamic and smooth at the same time and tops all versions around.Buy it!!!
