Ed's third RCA album, and one of his best; it seems to have sold well as it remains pretty common in the field, even though it didn't have any chart hits or album action. This came just before his biggest success, "My Cup Runneth Over" and it is a themed album centered around "manly" songs which Ed Ames delivers with gusto; two of them are tie ins with the "Daniel Boone" television show in which he was acting at the time. "The Erie Canal" is a very smart, hip arrangement of the old ballad, and overall this album is well sung and highly enjoyable. Only exception is "Luck Be A Lady;" Ed does a lot of things well, but not Sinatra. Nevertheless, the note writer's comment comparing him to Paul Robeson is a point well taken; do not avoid if you like strong, low male voices.
