I have been a huge ELP fan for years & this album had always irritated me as far as the mastering job that was done on the vinyl version from years ago right up until they did several remaster versions on cd a few years ago, all of which were sub standard with not very much improvement done at all... That all changed 2 years ago when Japan released the SHM-CD format... I had heard alot of hype about this new SHM-CD... Some audiophiles dismissed it as nonsense... But I decided to give it a chance & I thought what better album to test this new format on then "Welcome Back My Friends". It was expensive but it was a chance I was willing to take, & it paid off big time... it is without a doubt the best version of this double live cd I have ever heard in my life in years, I was absoluetly blown away at how great it sounded... Finally after all these years of waiting ELP fans our hopes have finally come through... I don't know if this version is still available but if it is go to CDJAPAN.COM & check it out...
