Enrico is a natural on the art of brass playing. This albeit an early release is the musical music at full tilt into territories of avant and pure melodic bliss-dom. Rava has a natural organic true magnetic north in his direction of melodic existentialism. The melodies are warm heartfelt on the more ballad like compositions and fierce and vulcanic as Pompeii. His band consisted of the finest musicians ECM was exploiting at the time John Abercrombie(guitar), Jon Christensen(drums) and Palle Danielsson(bass) all genius's in their own right who bring so much talent to the proverbial recording table. What truly makes this a great jazz album is the bands ability to shun ego and dominance to listen to each others performance whilst in the zone of composition/recording and thats what makes the Pilgrims journey a success to the new foundland of musical bliss. A very well balanced album on three levels: composition, musicianship and least but just as important... recording. One of the classic ECM albums EVERY jazz aficionado should own!

Top 95th percentile of all recordings by all musicians. He creates a sound world all his own.
