Ho-ho -- £100 for a 2018 LP almost certainly cut from a digital file and pressed on coloured vinyl?! Why bother? Just keep your eyes peeled -- I recently paid £149 for a sealed 1980 UK 1st -- rare as Hens-teeth to be sure, but worth waiting for in a way that a digi-180g is not...

This album is electronic, but it is also pure alternative, it is in fact the album I point to to those that ask "What is alternative music and what does it sound like?" I always have to play Pedestrian & State of the Nation together because they compliment each other so perfectly. When I first heard this album in 1980, my jaw hit the floor. It was so new, so different to anything I'd ever heard before and it helped usher in the great music that was to come in the 80's, IMO, the best decade along with the 60's ever in modern music!

The word "Genius" is over used and a good part of the time, not warranted. Frank Tovey was a true genius WAY ahead of his time! As mudslut23 notes below, he is still way ahead of his time. Frank died much too young with much more music to produce in him.

I'm 60 now & I still miss him and will for the rest of my life.

Excellent sounding pressing of this piece, one of the key early albums in the Mute catalogue. Original pressings in reasonable condition have been expensive for years; the limited repress sold out quite quickly and is now fetching high prices, which seems to me to ask for another repress. It would be nice to see more of his other material made available again as well for those of us who can’t abide by Spotify or use these pieces for gigs and the like. Nice to see the label providing lossless files with the reissue though.

Terrific pressing this from Mute to celebrate 40 years of the label. Great dynamics, no surface noise and the whole album sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday. Very impressive and more of this please...

I've just ordered the Mute 4.0 orange repress of this due out in October and really looking forward to hearing this artist on vinyl for the very first time. I saw him perform with Depeche in London way, way back in 2001and thought that he was the best support act of any band that I had ever seen, totally unique, and he jumped into the crowd :)

I have a STUMM 3 release which is different from all releases listed in the Master. There is no LYN, no MPO, no MVS present in the runout etchings. Mine also has the runout etching on Side B: SoundChime. Seems to be completely different from everything here. Maybe I should create a new release?

One of my all time favorite artists and albums. Fad Gadget never receives enough attention in electronic music history. Smooth electronic pop, grating textures, and demented tongue-in-cheek lyrics collide violently on this early Mute album. Check out 'State Of The Nation' and 'Coitus Interruptus' for proof. Fad Gadget was way ahead of his time, and to some extent...still is!
