This reissue sounds terrible. The Marshall Suite has been one of my favorite Fall albums since it's release, and I immediately noticed this version sounds distorted. The CD is loud, but clear. I returned this Let Them Eat Vinyl reissue the next week. It literally offended me! First time this has happened.

Because of the comments here, I bought the 1999 CD issue on Artful and compared it to this LETV Vinyl reissue. The differences are quite prominent, especially for the hi-hats. On track 6 ("Antidotes") they sound very muffled on the vinyl version, like the highs have been cut off.

The mix sounds even more compressed than on the CD. Probably it is meant to sound distorted and compressed, as an artistic decision, but the vinyl version seems to have an additional layer of that on top. For a defitive statement you would, of course, have to compare the original vinyl issue to the reissue, because in 1999 the loudness was already in full swing.

I notice that the original vinyl-only track "Finale: Tom Regazzi" is not listed on this reissue. Is it on here? What the hell was it in the first place?

To my (fucked) ears when compared on headphones to the original CD it actually sounds pretty much the same. It's a terrible squelchy, overdriven digital recording on both formats. It's the Fall, it's what the Fall sound like.

I agree that this reissue does not sound great - but it does not sound that bad. I am still enjoying the album. If you can get it cheap, it's worth it imo.

This record sounds like a 128 kbps mp3... you can notice the poor quality of the audio when any cymbals kick in. I'm avoiding any reissues from this label in the future. Good thing that Superior Viaduct is reissuing most of their earlier stuff.
