I can only guess at the reason the a-side was discarded in favour of the Heist tune that eventually got released as although it was good, the original of Are You Someone's Prayer kicks it in to touch. A subtle touch of fitered amen opens this opus of beat mangling and the way Fanu twists up this well used break without resorting to any glitchiness is just awesome. The track itself uses such a small amount of sample as well, it's just drums, subterranean bass and the occasional gun loading sample with a tiny snippet of female vocal thrown in to the mix. The bassline is just pure pressure with little semblance of a melody but that doesn't matter at all, it's the physical power of the low frequency on a soundsystem that has the impact and combined with the hundreds of drum edits in this track make for a mesmerising ride through the whole track. The b-side is a minimal tribute with much more emphasis on the kicks and snare and a touch of old school chords. Apparently there are only 4 copies of this in existence at the moment with the others being given to name DJs but I was lucky enough to bag a copy of the label owner as he put it up on ebay twice but noone bought it and I kept forgetting to bid. He did say there are plans to release it as a super limited edition at some point in the future.
