Lately, there's been a lot more emphasis on the "dub" part of "dub techno," and Fenin's _Been Through_ demonstrates this amply. There's so much reverb on "Dub Eraldo" that the sound seems to bounce around your skull. The rolling piano line on "A Try" and the icy synths on "I Guess" merge with Gorbi's rhythmic vocals; he also adds a sense of continuity to "Colourfields" (which has a choppier feel with its sharp edits). Gorbi seems to merge himself in the music (look at how he makes "Red Wine" melancholy; Scorcha, on the other hand, is more emphatic (not necessarily in a good way) on his turn on "Complain." But the instrumentals are just as compelling: the dense layers on "Breakin" and "Elephants" form a sonic cloud, and the eventual guitar on "Miles and More" makes it rain in a steady, unending stream. "Years Ago" growls the album to a close, but it's a great send-off to a echoing album.
