Fingers Inc. ‎– Can You Feel It

Genre:
Style:
Year:
Notes:
The original instrumental version of this song was released on Mr. Fingers' 3 track EP in 1986.

Some DJs used it as a backing track for the "in the beginning there was Jack" sermon from Rhythm Controll - My House (1987), or for Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, leading to these 1988-1989 releases of the mash-ups.

The release on Desire Records has the Chuck Roberts vocal plus the sermon as an acapella. The release on Jack Trax has the King speech, along with the original instrumental and a previously unreleased mix with soulful vocals by Fingers Inc.'s Robert Owens.

So is the "vocal" version on this release (A1) the version with Robert Owens? A bit confusing, with the youtube-videos and all...

The audio quality of this release is terrible, the songs sound compressed and the audio is unbalanced. The balancing issues are most noticeable with tracks 1 and 4.

This has got to be the worst reissue ever released of such a land mark classic, the audio is compressed so much it sounds like "can you feel it underwater", Terrible sound quality :(

The "Jack" intro is not on this vinyl !!! The acapella (B2) is the Martin Luther King speech (I Have A Dream). B1 is the "Can You Feel It" track, but again, with the M.L.K. speech in it.

The only vocal version that was done by Larry Heard was the one with Robert Owens. That Chuck Roberts stuff was done by the Hotmix 5 guys or some others. To me the original instrumental version is the one and only version, done sometime in 1984.

Frankly, I don't think that this one is official (or remastered, for that matter), as the tracks vary wildly in sound quality, just as a bootleg collection would. However, I appreciate the effort in compiling an overview over the essential versions of this classic - and looking at the history of Trax Records and especially the business conduct of its label owner, I wouldn't feel too guilty about buying this.

These reissues smell like there is something realy wrong with them. The record stores can be realy naive into selling bootlegs.
Look at them, no copyright, no 2014 year, no website or contact information about whos behind these 2014 reissues, one even has the same barcode as the original!!
I have a simple method in making the decision about whether these are bootleg or not, IF IT IS NOT OFFICIAL IT IS MOST LIKELY UNOFFICIAL.
Now let the shops have there extra income and many naive and young people buy all these uk unofficial pressings and let them be happy for a while enjoying these records.
They sound warm, some claim they even sound better as the Original it's like magic has been done, it's like selling shit for chocolat.
Good luck, but i stick with the originals i ahve been collecting for 20 years and have a lot of bootlegs seen passing, if they don't have the right information and they copy the artwork of the Original without updating the text and year you have a illegal copy in your hand. Where are all the same people crying for represses because of the high prices and resellers ask double the Original price, do you want copys of Original records without the artist getting paid, you propably paying a dude with a copy machine and a pressing plant working in a factory laughing his ass off. Oh well LET'S PLAY HOUSE !!

In the past six months lots of hard to find/expensive 80s/90s house 12"s have been repressed in what are claimed to be authorized and remastered versions (e.g. Bassmental, Mood II Swing, William S, Romanthony, Dannel Dixon, The It's Donnie, a number of Ron Trent and Chez Damier titles, etc.) Are these really legit? (Dope Jams website lists them as "European Imports".) Hard to figure out who would be coordinating the licenses and sourcing the master tapes from so many different labels/copyright owners etc. The few I've bought are a great pressings - but def. interested to know if they are bootlegs or not.
