A work of real genius and vast scope. My pick for "the great downtempo concept album", though calling it downtempto is to do it something of a misservice, as for once, the phrase "genre defying" is apt. Jazz, rock, classical, funk, breakbeat, lounge, ambient and a host of other influences are mixed up but genuinely successfully. There is no cheese. The music is clever and emotionally charged - think "Play" by Moby but cheerful and funky instead. It all rounds off with the truly epic "The Kaleidoscope Man", perhaps the most perfect tune to mark the sunset at the start of a night dancing on the beach. Really special record.
