An interesting blend of styles on this cd. Very melodic and capturing with haunting vocals from the Orient. Drifts into ambience but also can be driven along by lush synth lines, in a similar vein to Solvent. Worth tracking down.

"Folly" gets my vote for most beautiful record released this year... it's an often-mesmerising mix of lush, deep textures, weird loops and pretty sampled melodies all put through the wringer. It sounds gorgeous; at times you worry it might be about to veer a little close to "chill out album" blandness, but there's a real sense of taut minimalism behind this which keeps it from ever getting too glossy or overdone. The preceding album "At Bracken" was released on Static Caravan which should tell you all you need to know; SC alumni moving to bigger labels usually come up with the goods (think Sybarite) and this is the best of the crop so far.
