Simultaneously issued as a 2xCD + book set in 1991 by Empreintes DIGITALes in Canada and BV Haast Records in Holland. Both sets contained the same Canadian made discs and 220 page book. The BV Haast issue however had CD inserts (Mars like reddish rocky desert images) to fit in with its Acoustamatrix series. There are subsequent represses as a double, and many presses of the two discs as separate releases: Cycle De L’Errance and Les Dérives Du Signe.

Not as well known as some musique-concrete or avant-garde electronics composers, Dhomont is nonetheless an important and revolutionary force in this field, as any that have his INA.GRM release SOUS LE REGARD D'UN SOLEIL NOIR will know. With strong influence of 50's Pierre Schaefer and Pierre Henry, and a unique perspective that sets him apart from Francois Bayle, his work is sometimes closer to the vast soundscapes of some Stockhausen or Luc Ferrari.
This double CD set (with huge booklet) documents his 80's work and is mostly unreleased elsewhere. Dhomont's sound-world is a strange and mysterious one, he borders on the very edge of what many would call music, as there's little in the way of any melodic structure or standard musical references. Probably that's what makes such music so interesting, the pure inventiveness, the constant unexpectedness of it all! Often Dhomont's sonic constructions are almost like audio movies, particularly pieces like Espace/Escape complete with creaking doors, the sounds of activities within the mysterious rooms entered, and also the sounds and hubbub of the city, counterpointed by unusually manipulated sonic/electronic sound wedges. The most varied work here is the 42'55" long ...MOURIR UN PEU, which throughout its ten parts covers a wide gamut of styles from the ambient onto total cacophony. So, as such, the seven works here offer a vast plunge into an otherworldly sound experience that is most fascinating and challenging.

2-CD Set.

Mouvances-Métaphores. Volumes 8 & 9 in the Acousmatrix series. "Born in France, electro-acoustic composer Francis Dhomont divided the second half of his life between Paris and Montreal. Gifted with a sense of the narrative never matched, he is able to tell captivating tales through acousmatic art. His works remain some of the most enduring examples of musique concrete, transcending the genre to touch the core of mankind." Recordings from 1982-91.
