Freeland lets loose the remixers for COPE™ REMIXED, and, as can be expected, it turns out to be a mixed bag. I can't say I'm too impressed with the High Rankin's dubstep take of "Strange Things," but Siriusmo take "Rock On" and turn it into a weirdo-electro groover. Zombie Nation pump up "Under Control" into an almost DFA- Records like pounder (Evil Nine will make the same track into a straight-to-video action movie soundtrack), and Grum turn "Borderline" into an 80s synth wonderland. But Gui Boratto brings his unmistakable production value to the glorious builds of "Mancry," while Prins Thomas brings his reliable space-disco to "Morning Sun." On the second disc, Emalkay gives a darker dubstep rub to the cover of David Essex's classic "Rock On," while Nosaj Thing brings a fascinating, abstract hip-hop mix to the same track. Joker, on the other hand, offers melodic dubstep to "Do You," while Pantyraid is more straightforward with his dubstep, wobble bass and all. "Wish I Was Here" gets three mixes: a brisk, twinkling mix from TRG, fast breaks from Jenkinsound, and, best of all, and a glorious deep house mix from Glimpse. But Kompakt stalwart Justus Kohncke also delivers the goods with his take on "Mancry," which morphs from some simple breaks into Moroder-like electro. AC Slater brings in some big-room acid for his mix of "Only a Fool," and Alex Metric does the same for "Under Control." A nice collection, if not mind-blowing.
