I still have their Essential Mix from 1994, i think it was FSOL's 2nd appearance on Radio 1's weekend show in a matter of months.

That was probably my reason for buying this album in 1994, although not exactly the same mix of tracks, the style obviously is.

Lifeforms was released the week before my 21st Birthday. I was unemployed & skint but managed to keep enough of my dole money to buy the CD & some puff. I saved both for the evening of my Birthday whereupon settling down with my 2 best friends had one of the most magical evenings of my entire life.

No real need to review this album as such, not much i can add that hasn't been said.. but still this album's a favourite. Loved it ever since i first heard it.. been a while too! until today.
I used to have it on a tape when i was a kid, id listen to it on my headphones at night and conjure up the maddest imaginations. its like a journey through different places and spaces. like some mental trip.

Sounds like.. Beautiful ethereal ambiance to unnerving dark electronic soundscapes and literally all sorts of instruments and noise in between! Oh yeah and not to forget the wicked art on the sleeve

Flawless, Timeless, Breathtaking... appropriate words to describe this masterpiece of audio stimulus. FSOL combines organic with synthetic in such a way that only masters of their game could. Whether your enjoying a day at the beach or on your way home after a long night. Lifeforms inspires and uplifts and always has you guessing. An essential album for anyone who loves Ambient music.

Quite possibly the best artist album I've ever heard, and the most obvious 5/5 in my entire record collection. No matter if you're into house, techno, ambient, trance, noise or whatever, this is one of the most essential pieces of electronic music I can think of. Everyone should have this album.
