French hip-hop with an extremely well crafted lyrical twist. A bit dark, moody, thoughtful creepy creppes in the land of "egalite, liberte"(fraternite went to hell since the last war). Deep and dopey, Gasoline is a testimony of French hip hop entering the big league.

These guys know what they are doing, incredible production, exceptional rhythmic samples and sense for combination. Seems to me like an album worked and meditated by the milimeter. And it seems like this band became a true star in the global firmament from hip-hop as this album is still praised as top of the tops.

To make a rather large, mostly instrumental, a bit abstract album like this, you must come with something really solid, something that keeps in the body like a rare chemistry, like a rather darkly route, with a subtle touch of menace and cinematic rhythm. Something memorable. They did that. The album is incredibly atmospheric, yet solidly lyrical with a strong sense for rhythm. No gangsta bullshit, no unnecessary beat or loop. In a word, elegant.

Deserves a reissue.

I'm really not a Hip Hop Fan. But this album is exceptional. Remembers me to old Kruder & Dorfmeister sessions and allows a different angle of view to this kind of music...
